An Introduction
With many kingdoms and many foreign countries that ruled India, its culture and tradition is still intact. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Gujarat to Assam, with such different cultures, attire, food, customs and languages, united we stand.
So, the question at the moment is, "What makes India India?" To find out, lets take a virtual tour to four of the most important cities here- the capital New Delhi, the business and fashion hub Mumbai, the cultural capital Kolkata and the Detroit of Asia, Chennai.
Did you know that Kolkata was initially the capital of India? It was in December 1911 when the British officials felt that it was beneficial to have a capital at the center than in the eastern part of the country. It was the home to multiple personalities like Rabindranath Tagore, Raja Ram Mohun Roy, Satyajit Ray and Mother Teresa. Kolkata is famous for its inclination towards art and architecture. Most importantly, the food there is to die for!
When it comes to fashion, Mumbai is the place to be in. It is the richest and the most populous city in India and is also the home to most of the influential people in the Business Sector. Mumbai houses the famous Juhu Beach and is the hub for street food. With a mix of British, Indian and Modern Architecture, the skyline of the city is worth watching.
Delhi was the capital for multiple kingdoms; the most prominent kingdoms being the Delhi Sultanate and Mughal Empire. After India gained Independence, New Delhi became its capital. The city is famous for its history and iconic buildings such as the Rashtrapati Bhavan and Red Fort. And for shopaholics, there are multiple markets and bazaars worth visiting.
Lastly, the birthplace of Carnatic music and Bharatnatyam- Chennai. The city boasts two popular beaches- Elliot's and Marina; the latter being the second longest beach in the world. Chennai is also famous for its IT sector and Automobile industry. For flora and fauna lovers, the Guindy National Park, Madras Crocodile Bank, and Arignar Anna Zoo are worth visiting.
