High Street Phoenix

High Street phoenix, formerly known as Phoenix Mills, is one of the largest malls in India. Located in Lower Parel. Mumbai, this is the largest mall in the city. It was inaugurated in the year 1996. Besides the mall itself, the compound wall consists of a five-star hotel and residential complex. Also, it consists of Palladium; where the expensive brands have their own outlets. Another highlight of the  place is that it is not like most malls in India. Instead of all outlets being set up in one building, they are scattered over an area of 3.3 million sq. ft. For those of you who like bowling, the mall is South Asia's largest bowling course with about 20 lanes! Movie lovers can have a great time for there is a separate block for cinema theatres! Being at the heart of the city, High Street Phoenix is a favorite hangout spot for Mumbaikars. 

Parthasarathy Temple

Parthasarathy Temple is an 8th Century temple built by the Pallavas. It is located in Triplicane,, dedicated to lord Krishna. According to Hindu Mythology, the name Parthasarathy is derived from the epic Mahabharath. The name means 'Charioteer of Arjun.' The temple is one of the oldest monuments in Chennai. Though it is dedicated to Lord Krishna, the temple has five forms of Lord Vishnu: Gajendra Varadaraja, Krishna, Narasimha, Rama and Ranganatha. The temple is busiest during the Margazhi month where on Vaikunta Ekadasi, people 'enter Heaven.' Besides different idols of Vishnu, this temple has idols of Andal, Hanuman and Alvar among other idols.

Gateway of India

The Gateway of India is a monument located at Nariman Point, Mumbai. The  monument was built to honor Queen Mary and King George V, who visited India in the year 1911. The architect in-charge of the construction of the monument was George Wittet, wanted the monument to have a uniqueness to it. It has a mixture of Hindu and Muslim architecture, with a hint of Roman architecture. In present times, the monument serves as a tourist spot with many local vendors, tour guides and photographers flocking the area. Despite this, the place is a 'victim' of multiple terror attacks such as the infamous 2008 Mumbai Attacks, 2003 Twin Car Bombing among other freakish acts.  But don't worry, with extensive security that has been placed since 2008 has made thata place secure for visitation.

Kalighat Mandir

   Kalighat Mandir is one of the most popular temples in the city of Kolkata. The temple is one among Shakti Peethas. According to the legend, the temple stands at the exact spot where Sati's toe fell during Shiva's Rudra Tandavam. The idol of Goddess is depicted in a very unique way. The idol has three eyes with a an angered expression on its face along with its tongue hanging out and four hands.  Many say that the temple was first seen during Chandragupta II's period while others say that the temple was first spotted in the 16th century. Other historians claim that the temple is over 200 years old. Lastly, It is said that Kolkata got its name from this very themple1

Mahalaxmi Mandir

Mahalaxmi temple is famous temple located on the shores of Mumbai. It was inaugurated in the year 1831 by Dakhji Dadaji. This temple houses three Goddesses: Mahakali, Mahalaxmi and Mahasaraswati. The idols are adorned with jewels with Mahalaxmi extensively decorated. It is said that during Navratri, the idol of Mahalaxmi comes alive. The specialty of this temple is that it has a tremendous view of the Arabian Sea. It is located near the famous Haji Ali Dargah in Worli. The temple is of great archelogical and historical value. 

Kapaleeshwarar temple, Chennai

Kapaleeshwarar Temple is a temple of Shiva located in Mylapore, Chennai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The form of Shiva's consort Parvati worshipped at this temple is called Karpagambal is from Tamil, ("Goddess of the Wish-Yielding Tree"). The temple was built around the 7th century CE in Dravidian architectures.According to the Puranas, Shakti worshipped Shiva in the form of a peacock, giving the vernacular name  Mylai  to the area that developed around the temple -  mayil  is Tamil for "peacock". Shiva is worshiped as Kapaleeswarar, and is represented by the lingam. His consort Parvati is depicted as Karpagambal. The presiding deity is revered in the 7th century Tamil Saiva canonical work, the Tevaram, written by Tamil saint poets known as the nayanars and classified as Paadal. The siddhi vinayak mandir, Mumbai

The  Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shri Ganesh. It is located in Mumbai, Maharashtra It was originally built by Laxman Vithu and Deubai Patil on 19 November 1801.It is one of the richest temples in Mumbai.The temple has a small mandap with the shrine for Siddhi Vinayak ("Ganesha who grants your wish"). The wooden doors to the sanctum are carved with images of the Ashtavinayak (the eight manifestations of Ganesha in Maharashtra). The inner roof of the sanctum is plated with gold, and the central statue is of Ganesha. In the periphery, there is a Hanuman temple as well.

The Commercial Center of Chennai City, formerly known as Mambalam with its divided neighbour West Mambalam and later renamed in the name of the founder of Justice Party, Sir P Thyagaraya, equally crowded as the Parrys Corner in Chennai. Marine Drive- Mumbai

Marine Drive, officially known as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road, is a three kilometer long and six lane concrete road in southern Mumbai which stretches north along the coastline, forming a natural bay.  This C-shaped road links Nariman Point to Babulnath, and is situated at the foot of Malabar Hills. Fort St George

The Fort St. George Museum is open to the public since 31st January 1948. The museum began with a small collection of objects of the British Raj donated by the then Madras Presidency Government, the St. Mary's Church authorities and the disbanded army units . The building housing the museum is one of the oldest surviving buildings built within the fort. The building was completed in 1795 and served as the Madras Bank. Madras day

Madras Day is a festival organised to to commemorate the founding of the city Madras it is celebrated on August 22nd up every year. August 22 1639 its been widely agreed date for the purchase of village Madrasapattinam by the East India  Company. This idea first suggested by a journalist  2 and historian during a meeting of the trustees in Chennai Heritage Foundation in 2004. since then Madras Day celebration is being followed in celebrated every year without fail. it is an unique festival which No other society has. the celebration consists of even such as Heritage walks public talk exhibition poetry competition and special programs on local radios  and also contest such as T-Shirt designing documentary film contest multimedia presentations in Tamil and English on this day. History of Maharashtra

Shahaji's son, Shivaji, born at the Shivneri fort on February 19, 1630, was the creator of the Maratha nation. He united the Maratha chiefs from Maval, Konkan and Desh regions and carved out a small kingdom by defeating the alien powers. He stabilised the state with effective civil and military administration and adopted a policy of religious tolerance to accommodate all religions and sects in his state. He was the first Maratha Chhatrapati (ruler) to start the Raj Shaka (royal era) and issue the gold coin, shivarai hon - on the occasion of his coronation (1674). His premature death at the age of 50 (April 5, 1680) created a vacuum. Rashtrapati bhavan

Rashtrapati Bhavan , home to the President of the world’s largest democracy, is emblematic of Indian democracy and its secular, plural and inclusive traditions. It was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker and stands on a 330 acre estate. It took seventeen years to build this presidential palace which was completed in the year 1929. Chole bhature of delhi

Who named Delhi

The most common view is that the name originates from Raja Dhilu or Dilu, a king of Mauryan Dynasty who reigned in the first century B.C. and named the city after himself. The various names by which it has been known are Dilhika, Delhi, Dilli, and Dhilli which have been corruptions of the king's name. We can see during the times of Tomars ,Delhi was named as Dilli whereas during Mahabharat Delhi was named as Indraprastha were snakes were in Large number and was considered as barren Land. Delhi Sultans chose Delhi as their Capital because it was a fertile area and a stratgic position for defence with Yamuna in east.

DMK

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam was founded in the year 1949 by C.N. Annadurai. It is the oldest political party in Tamil Nadu. In 1953 when M.G. Ramachandran joined the party, it became extremely popular. He was seen as the icon of the party for popularizing the symbol and flag. DMK's first win though was in 1967 i.e., 18 years after its formation. In 1969, the party leader, C.N. Annadurai died. This led M. Karunanidhi to take the reigns of the chariot. Since then, he is the  leader of the party with his son, M.K. Stalin as his successor. With MGR's exit from the party and the formation of AIADMK, the party faced some hardships but gained strength in 1989, two years after MGR's death. Both AIADMK and DMK are well-known rivals during the Tamil Nadu state elections. The party has also, faced many controversies since 1976 regarding corruption and embezzlement. Despite such problems, the party is strong and powerful.

AIADMK

All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) was initially known as Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (ADMK). It was founded by the famous MG Ramachandran (MGR), who broke away from Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam earlier in 1972. Since its founding, AIADMK has won seven times making it the most successful state political party in the history of Indian politics. Also, it is known to butt-heads with its rival DMK. Since MGR's death in 1987, the party split into two factions with MGR's wife Janaki on one end and J. Jayalalitha on the other. In 1989, with DMK winning the elections, both women decided to come together as one, in order to strengthen the party with Jayalalitha as its leader. The party saw glorious times during Jayalalitha's rule, though it faced its set of controversies. With Jayalalitha's death in 2016, the party yet again split into two factions, but  later, merged themselves with O. Paneerselvam and E. Palanisaami

Valluvar Kottam

Valluvar Kottam is a temple chariot like-monument built to honour the renowned classical Tamil poet and saint, Thiruvalluvar. This intricately designed monument was built by Kalaignar M.Karunanidhi during the 1970s to honour the contributions of Thiruvalluvar. A popular Tamil poet and philosopher, he has been attributed with the creation of  Thirukkurals which are hailed as one of the greatest works of Tamil literature. Valluvar Kottam is known for its great architecture, built with innovative layouts and well-thought execution. The sublime beauty of Valluvar Kottam is best experienced during the morning hours when the city is just waking up to the day. Valluvar Kottam also plays host to some of the most important exhibitions and events in the city. Another interesting fact about the Valluvar Kottam is that you can also see a few saplings which were planted here by Mother Teresa herself, and are marked by a stone plate marking the year 1984.  

The Crocodile Park

When tourists visit Chennai, they usually go to the 'mandate' places like Vandalur Zoo, the beach or to the malls. But how about going to some place different? The Crocodile Bank is actually known as Madras Crocodile Bank Trust and Center for Herpetology. For those of you who don't know, Herpetology is a branch of Zoology that deals with Amphibians. The Park is not exactly located in Chennai, but is actually 40 kilometers away from the city. This wonderful place aims to preserve and protect endangered Amphibians. And also, did you know that the Crocodile Park is the first crocodile breeding center in Asia. Not only crocodiles, but this park also serves as a safe nesting spot for Olive Ridley Turtles. Besides its fauna, this park is known for its flora. The most notable feature of this park is that it has opened its doors for animal enthusiasts who wish to volunteer to care for these fascinating beings.

Vedanthangal bird sanctuary - Chennai

Vedanthangal is the oldest water bird sanctuary in the country.Vedanthangal in Tamil language means 'hamlet of the hunter'.This area was a favourite hunting spot of the local landlords in the early 18th century. The region attracted a variety of birds because it was dotted with small lakes that acted as feeding grounds for the birds. Realising its ornithological importance, the British government undertook steps to develop Vedanthangal into a bird sanctuary as early as 1798. This was established in 1858 by the order of the Collector of Chengalpattu. The best time to visit this sanctuary is from November to March. During this time, birds are seen busy building and maintaining their nests. Villagers near this sanctuary are very concerned about the sanctuary and its winged residents, and they have taken many serious steps to avoid disturbance to the flow of birds.

Chicken 65

Chicken 65 is a spicy, deep-fried chicken dish originating from Chennai, India. The flavour of the dish can be attributed to red chillies but the exact set of ingredients for the recipe can vary. Chicken 65 was a dish introduced in 1965 at the Buhari Hotel restaurant in Chennai by its founder A.M.Buhari. They also offer Chicken 78, Chicken 82 and Chicken 90, introduced in 1978, 1982 and 1990 respectively.

Chennai culture - festivals

Chennai celebrates a number of festivals. Pongal, celebrated in the month of January, is the most important festival of and is celebrated over a period of five days. Pongal has been designated the "State Festival" for its unique celebration that is typical of Tamil Nadu. Though a harvest festival it is still celebrated widely in the city. Tamil New Year's Day signifying the beginning of the Tamil calendar usually falls on April 14 and is celebrated widely. Being a cosmopolitan city, almost all major religious festivals like Deewali, Eid ,and Christmas are celebrated here.

Food at the Beach

For decades, the beaches have been the hangout spot for the people of Chennai. And can you guess what's the best part of the beach? It's the aroma that comes from all the food stalls that are all around the beach.  The mesmerizing smell of roasted corn and the different varieties of fish fried in different masalas are a treat by themselves. Then the famous 'manga pattani sundal' (yellow peas and raw mango) vendor who walks and hawks this scrumptious snack just near the water line... It becomes easy to have a little snack even when we are enjoying the warm waters that hits our feet.   Though people love the sundal, the most popular snack at the beach is... Bajji! Bajji ranges from mellow potatoes to fiery chilies... with chili being the showstopper for the bajji! It is made from a type of chili that provides a kick after swallowing. Bajjis are typically sold by wrapping them in newspaper or they are served on plates with their 'chutney of the day.'

Chennai!!

Chennai, yesterday's Madras, remained under the influence of many great dynasties like the Pallavas, the Cholas, the Pandyas and the Vijaynagar Empire. From just being a fishing village known as 'Madraspatnam', the city became one of the most important city of the country, though slowly and steadily. The credit for establishment of the city goes to Francis Day and Andrew Cogan who began factory-cum-trading post in Chennai for the very first time in 1639.

Trinamool Congress - Mukul Roy

Mukul Roy's exit from the Trinamool Congress marked the end of his 20-year-long stint in the party that he helped mould with his former mentor, Mamata Banerjee. Mamata Banerjee   Mukul Roy: He was the 63-year-old politician, who was once Ms Banerjee's right-hand man, resigned from the Rajya Sabha and the party he had helped her set up in January, 1998. His motto was 'victory at any cost'. Mukul Roy  Mr Roy was a Youth Congress worker in the 1990s when he became a close associate of Ms Banerjee, then the West Bengal Youth Congress president. He was among those who left the Congress for the TMC when Ms Banerjee decided to form her own party. Mr Roy spoke about the pitfalls of "one-man parties" after his resignation. He said, all should be "comrades in a party and not servants. But the one-man parties do not work like that".

Eden gardens

Eden gardens is one of the biggest cricket stadium in India. It was established in the year 1864. The Eden gardens have the IPL franchise for Kolkata Knight riders. It had the seating capacity of 90000 people. It is also the home ground of Bengal cricket team.

Howrah bridge, Kolkata

Howrah Bridge  is a bridge with a suspended span over the Hooghly River in West Bengal, India. Howrah Bridge, because it replaced a pontoon bridge at the same location linking the two cities of Howrah And Kolkata (Calcutta). It is made of steel material. And maintained by Kolkata port. The Howrah bridge is considered as one of the most amazing tourist spot in India.

Birla Planetarium - Kolkata

Birla planetarium in Kolkata is one of the three planetariums present in India and is hailed as the largest of its kind in the world. People, especially the astronomy lovers, flock in from all over the world to experience the amazing shows which are organized here. A complete new package in a new made over interior. Absolutely super place for the children and adults alike. The fountains and the well maintained grassy lawns are treat to watch. One of the interesting aspects if the Birla Planetarium is certainly its architecture. The style followed in the architecture of Birla Planetarium has been adopted from Sanchi Stupa and is quite prominent even from a distance.

Marble Palace Mansion - Kolkata

The palatial mansion was built in 1835 by Raja Rajendra Mullick and is a residence for his descendants till date. The architecture of the Marble Palace Mansion is neoclassical and is considered the best preserved sites of this style of architecture.
