Who named Delhi
The most common view is that the name originates from Raja Dhilu or Dilu, a king of Mauryan Dynasty who reigned in the first century B.C. and named the city after himself.
The various names by which it has been known are Dilhika, Delhi, Dilli, and Dhilli which have been corruptions of the king's name.
We can see during the times of Tomars ,Delhi was named as Dilli whereas during Mahabharat Delhi was named as Indraprastha were snakes were in Large number and was considered as barren Land.
Delhi Sultans chose Delhi as their Capital because it was a fertile area and a stratgic position for defence with Yamuna in east.
