Food at the Beach

For decades, the beaches have been the hangout spot for the people of Chennai.

And can you guess what's the best part of the beach? It's the aroma that comes from all the food stalls that are all around the beach.

The mesmerizing smell of roasted corn and the different varieties of fish fried in different masalas are a treat by themselves.

Then the famous 'manga pattani sundal' (yellow peas and raw mango) vendor who walks and hawks this scrumptious snack just near the water line... It becomes easy to have a little snack even when we are enjoying the warm waters that hits our feet.

Though people love the sundal, the most popular snack at the beach is... Bajji! Bajji ranges from mellow potatoes to fiery chilies... with chili being the showstopper for the bajji! It is made from a type of chili that provides a kick after swallowing. Bajjis are typically sold by wrapping them in newspaper or they are served on plates with their 'chutney of the day.'

As for the non vegetarian lovers, don't you worry. The fish fry is a must try. The crackling of oil as soon as the fish along with batter added to the wok, is music to people's ears. With different mixes for each variety, you'd ought to try all that's there in the menu!
